    Our Chalkboard Fridge!

    June 22, 2008

    100_4501

So I finally finished this project!

A while back I posted a picture of a chalkboard fridge and how much I wanted to do this. Well, an extremely nice person on freecycle was kind enough to not only give us, but deliver to us, a working fridge! It wasn’t beautiful, think old white nondescript fridge. It had some dirt and some rust like areas and just needed a general cleaning…BUT, it worked! :)

So off to the hardware store I went and purchased a pint of Black Chalkboard paint and a small flat surfaces roller and got to work! It took 4 coats of paint on all surfaces of the fridge. We had to take off the doors and I actually painted those inside of the house because it rained for so many days and I was so anxious to get this done!

Then we finally had some nice weather and I was able to finish the large outer shell! :) WOOHOO!

We finally got it inside and while I was about to clean off the top and make it all “picture worthy” I decided to just take a picture as it is, and show you our life and how we really live. :)

My husband was the first one to write on the fridge and isn’t he just a sweetie to leave me such a cute love note? :) The drawings on the front are of the things that are currently in the freezer. *laugh*

    Anyways….just wanted to share! :D

    chalk it up!

    May 4, 2008

OK…..I’m obsessed with chalkboards these days! I’ve found so many great ideas but the one that’s haunting my dreams as something I MUST do is paint a fridge with chalkboard paint:

I am starting up a Supper Swap with some local Ladies. If you don’t know what a supper swap is…essentially each person in the group makes one meal in bulk and freezes it into 4-6 people meals. Then all members in the group get together and swap their frozen meals. So, each person makes one type of meal, and comes home with LOTS of different types of meals to put in their freezer and pull out to feed their family during the month! :)

Anyways…this is relevant to my chalkboard fridge obsession I promise. :) Because I’m starting this Supper Swap, there isn’t enough room my parents Fridge/Freezer for the frozen meals I will be making and swapping. Sooooo…therefore we are going to get a used Fridge/freezer and I’ve decided that I must paint it with chalkboard paint. :) Actually….we want to use black chalkboard paint and then write on the outside what frozen meals are inside and then obviously erase the meal once we’ve eaten it! LOL I know a little corney or cheesy…but oh so fun. :) Not to mention I could doodle all over it and one day when we have kids they could draw all over it and make it art. :)

So…that’s my latest obsession. :) Now to find a fridge someone wants to give away or one to buy for cheap! :)

    mini makeover

    February 1, 2008

Another blog that I love has started featuring mini makeovers and asked for us to share out own…so I thought I would join in on the fun!

This is really a somewhat simple project. When i was helping my mom organize and decorate her perfectly purple craft room (her favorite color of all time) she needed some boxes to organize in, but unfortunately we aren’t privy to living in an area with cool organizing stores nearby like The Container store or anything. So….what to do? We looked all around town for anything suitable. Nothing worked. We couldn’t even find decorative photo boxes!

So….of course we had to brainstorm. We needed something that fit the following criteria:

    *inexpensive
    *easy to find
*the right size to fit on her bookcases
*attractive - as they would be seen and not hidden in a closet

These are not easy things to find! We finally ended up at walmart searching the aisles for inspiration. Then it hit! Why not get regular clear plastic containers and just morph them into something nice looking. But how? hmmmm more brain storming. Ahhh…..there it was…the $1 a yard fabric table! (lets not get into how this is going to be going away soon at our local super walmarts and how sad I will be) Maybe we could find some cute fabric and find some way to cover the containers in an easy way? So there it was..the perfect purple fabric. Cha-ching! :) Off we went with like 18 yards of this stuff. :)

We ended up coming up with what I think is a pretty cool way to do this. Mom made a slipcover for the boxes out of the fabric. It’s just basic straight seams and nothing that difficult. We used a few pieces of newspaper to come up with a pattern and then cut out all of the material. The one thing special that we did do was put button holes in the corners of the slipcover’s. Why? Ohh you see the way these boxes are made…they are wider at top than at the bottom just slightly…so the fabric won’t stay up unless you attach them to the box somehow. How to do this you might ask? Well….we just marked some holes on each corner evenly and used a 1/4 inch drill bit to drill some holes in the corners. We then threaded ribbon through the holes in the plastic box and then out through the button holes in the slipcovers and tied! Bingo! Cute boxes for like so little money! I think the boxes were like $2.00 each or something and they each took about a yard of fabric…so about $3.00 a box!

    Here is a picture:

    storage boxes

Obviously you can make this match any decor just by picking different fabric! :) Here are some others we made for another room in the house:

Anyone else have a mini makeover to share? I love stuff like this. :)

    a little gem. :)

    November 13, 2007

ok so I love finding new fun websites! Today I stumbled upon this little gem. :)

    http://www.lowescreativeideas.com/

I LOVE this idea that they shared: ( click here to go directly to their page with instructions )

    wagi_ribbons

I think though that I would take this one step further and drill holes on the sides of the plastic container that the ribbon would pull through so that I could put the top on the container and keep the dust off of my fun ribbons! :)

So what fun websites have you found lately? Leave a comment and tell me about your favorite websites! :D

Inspiration Friday - Office and Craft Rooms

    November 9, 2007

Man..it’s been a long time since I’ve shared on Inspiration Friday! With all of the origination I’ve been trying to do…these images inspire me so much! I have this goal of having a beautiful office / craft space when we purchase a home. And I mean totally organized where I don’t have to stress over finding stuff! I did pretty well before but since we moved in with my parents (to save for a house) everything is in storage or in piles! It drives me NUTS! Talk about killing any desire to do anything crafty!

Well..Here you go. Some visual stimulation. I’m sorry that I don’t remember where all of these images came from. If you do know, please let me know and I will give proper credit where credit is due.

    on the hunt!

    October 5, 2007

Ok…….while going through a bunch of files on my computer tonight I ran across 5 thumbnail images of posters that I have been searching for for YEARS. Yes, I have literally been searching for years. They were available on allposters.com about 9 years ago and I should have purchased them all then, but I didn’t. When I was in college $25 a poster, when there were 5 of them I wanted at that specific time, seemed like a lot of money and so I just figured I’d get them somewhere down the line.

Well….now it’s 9 years later and I have searched all over and not been able to find these anywhere for sale. I even contacted allposters.com and they told me that they had no information that they could give me. BLAH! SOMEONE has to have these. :)

The background story is David and I saw these when we were dating years ago…..and knew we wanted them. Didn’t buy them…now I can’t find them. They kind of represent our long distance relationship because they are mostly scenes we saw as we flew across the country many times to be with each other. David tried to buy them for me for our one year anniv. from some dealer online who said he could get them…but they dude stole davids money and we never got them.

So…..I’m asking for anyone that reads this blog (hello - there are people out there aren’t there?! ) if you happen to find these please let me know! Better yet, if you have any leads on how I might search for these I would GREATLY appreciate it. I’m so tired of looking for vintage travel posters and coming up empty handed! THANK YOU!!! :D

    Where did the summer go?

    September 6, 2007

Seriously. When I was a kid summers felt like they went on for an eternity! What happens when you get older that makes time fly by so quickly? Is it because we are so busy we forget to just relish in doing nothing? Or that we are so busy we don’t have time to be bored and wish for summer to end faster like we did when we were kids and wanted to see our friends at school again? *laugh*

Well, whatever happened the time flew by!!!

David started his new job over a month ago now and he’s really enjoying it! The people are extremely friendly and he has been receiving compliments from the high up bosses and the customers he deals with on a day to day basis on the phone since day one. I told him he would do great and of course he is. :)

I’ve been working hard on a bunch of projects in the last month. Specifically, trying to finish up proofing all of the weddings we photographed this summer! Wow was it a busy time but a blast! I know that the brides are anxious to see all of their images and I try my hardest to get them up quickly but sometimes you just have to take a step back from looking at the computer screen for a few hours and do something else!

David and I have been spending a lot of time going to thrift stores and antique stores. We aren’t looking for any specific things as we still haven’t bought a house, but we love to go and dream and pick up bargains along the way. We figure we can always store things until we have a house to put them in. :) We are absolutely enjoying weekends as this is the first time since we have been married that David gets every weekend off like a normal adult. *laugh* In the past he’s always worked some weird kind of shift work and it always cut into down time that other couples had together. We missed alot of get together with friends because of his weird hours. He is just so happy that finally he’s off in the evening and has weekends to play. :) I love it too. :)

On another front, I have fallen in love with a new blog! I found it yesterday and yes, I read all of the posts!!! Ok..I promise I’m not obsessed. :) But seriously, this lady has a style that is so similar to my own when it comes to decorating that I was sucked in. I just wanted to see where the house started from and how they are changing it in amazing ways! I love dreaming about what we will do when we finally buy a house and I know that I will be documenting it on my blog like this lady has. :) So….if you want to read a great blog and see some great progress of an adorable home please visit Becoming Home.

oh I so shoudln’t start ANOTHER project!!!

    August 8, 2007

Ok…I’m no quilter. In fact, I hardly know how to sew. I’ve done straight lines before. *laugh* Thats about it.

BUT. When I ran across the quilt shown below I fell in LOVE and have decided that at some point in my life I must make it!!!

It might take me an entire lifetime to make it. *laugh*

    Dear Jane® Quilt

I really shouldn’t even start on any new project. I’m not even halfway done on my ripple afghan! It just got so hot and it is so hard to even think about working on an afghan in this heat! Yeah, I know…excuses excuses!

Anyway…I just had to share this and give the link to anyone else who might be interested in the history of this amazing quilt and the design involved. You can learn more at www.dearjane.com.

    Happy Quilting! :)

    Insperation Friday: Letterforms

    June 8, 2007

A few Saturday’s ago my hubby and I spent the day doing things together we love. One of those things is going to Hobby Lobby. We don’t always buy things, but we do get ideas on things we want to do or are able to buy stuff for projects we are working on. Honestly, I don’t know that David really enjoys the place THAT much, but he does love me and knows I love it, so we have fun together. :)

Anyways, the point of that story is while we were there we ran across some items I adore; large letters. I have had this thing for letters ever since I took so many typography classes in design school. I even had one class called letterforms where I actually had to learn to differentiate over 100 different fonts by looking at the letters individually! Can you tell the difference between the Garamond and bodoni typeface by looking at the letter G? aahah Anyways you get the idea. :)

So while at Hobby Lobby we found a great deal on some reproduction old large sign letters. Of course we had to buy a D and a K. :) One day I will have them displayed in our home so that I can take a picture and show you all. In the meantime, here are some images of letters used in decorating and letter forms found in things around our lives. :) ENJOY! :)

oh my where have I been?!

    June 1, 2007

I am so sorry I seem to have disappeared off the face of the earth! Things have been insane!

For those that don’t know…I’m a wedding photographer and it is now officially wedding season! I’ve had 3 weddings in the last 4 weeks and a bunch more to come. :) So unfortunately this means a LOT more work for me and less playing. I promise though that I will take more time with this blog and keep it updated more. If you want to check out my photography work feel free to by visiting my website at http://www.adairphotography.com. :)

So on a more fun note……you may not know this but David and I are winning a house on Sunday. :) Yes, you heard me right. I am positve of it. We WILL be winning this house on Sunday. It is ours, and it is perfect. We purchased our ticket for it today and took a look around. All of the proceeds from the ticket sales go to a local foundation here that does so much for our community. Check out their website here: https://www.childrensmiraclemansion.org

So…without further ado….here are imges of our house that we are winning on Sunday. (Something to be said about the power of positive thinking….has anyone ever heard of “the secret”? :) I am so thankful for this house and know that it will be perfect for us. :) ) (P.S. Sorry for the crappy pictures…all I had was my cell phone :) )
